Carousel of Time

The Carousel Ball event this last weekend was amazing! An impressive fundraiser for a great cause with ‘signature’ representation by John Atencio. The sold out event was held at the Hyatt Regency Denver, with proceeds benefitting the programs of the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. The center’s mission is dedicated to supporting the best possible clinical, research, and educational programs for children and adults.

John Atencio was represented by himself, David Atencio, Shelly Getty and Holly Weldon. Holly modeled the piece from John’s Signature Collection, which closed at nearly $10000, during the live auction. A cushion cut lemon quartz set in yellow gold with diamonds; it was a beautiful statement to be won, both in aesthetics and contribution! The pendant added to the $250,000 that was raised during this segment of the evening. Additionally, there was a silent auction, not to mention the ball’s ‘sold out’ status compiling to make this event a huge success for the foundation.

The entertainment was stellar as the lineup began with Ruben Studdard of American Idol fame and was followed by The Forte Tenor group from America’s Got Talent. Pop star Usher was also there as the evening’s final crowd-pleaser! Usher’s son has type 1 diabetes so the connection was important to him and his performance was incredible.

Watching the choreographed events of the night unveil with successful purpose allowed John Atencio to feel pride in our participation for this fundraiser. Lyrics from Joni Mitchell’s Circle Game are apropos to this honor. ‘We’re captive on this carousel of time. We can’t return, we can only look behind from where we came.’ Making a difference is a good review ‘from where we came’. It is an honor to have contributed and we hope to continue this relationship in the future.
